# Connect to Azure AI

> Generate text with your Azure OpenAI deployment, including web search, file search, and code interpreter.

Use a code-free step to generate text with your own Azure OpenAI deployment. The step calls the Azure OpenAI Responses API and can use the same built-in tools as OpenAI: web search, file search, and code interpreter.

## Before you begin

* In your Next Matter portal, go to **Automations library**, click **Connect** in the **Azure OpenAI** app tile, and enter your Azure endpoint URL and API key.

## Generate text

1. Click **Workflows > + Create new\... > Create a new workflow** and give your workflow a name. If you have a workflow ready, click **... > Edit workflow**.

2. Click **+ Add step** and select **Integrations > Azure OpenAI**.

3. Click the step and click **Configure integration**.

4. Select **Process/generate text with Azure OpenAI Responses API** in **Azure OpenAI action**.

5. Enter your **Deployment** name (as it appears in the Azure Portal), then enter the prompt and select the output type.

6. (Optional) In the **Tools** field, add **Web Search**, **File Search**, or **Code Interpreter**. These are the same built-in tools as on OpenAI's Responses API. For what each tool does and the settings you can fill in, see [Connect to OpenAI](/docs/connect-to-openai).

7. (Optional) If needed, you can tweak the request by providing data in the **Advanced AI configuration** dropdown.

8. Select the output text as a variable you can refer to later on.

9. Save your changes.
